Day 2 of training to run- November 15, 2011
Super excited at lunch to break in my new Brooks Defyance 4 running shoes. I took time last night to get to JackRabbits and get myself properly fitted for them.
Game plan this afternoon is to see how far I can sustain running and what speed. I warmed up by starting at 2.5mph and increased it to a mile every 30 seconds until I got to 5mp. I started running a minute @ 5mph then rest 30 seconds then back on 6mph. Repeated this until I got up to 8.5 mph and then reduced it back until I got to 4mph. I started back at 5mph and started to run for 2 minutes rest 30 seconds, increased it by .5mph and run again for 2 minutes until 7.5 mph. I managed to run a solid 3 minutes at 6.5mph and instead of resting 30 seconds I cut it to 20 seconds. I did pretty good the last two days. I did a total of 25:30 mins on the treadmill today. I managed to run a total of 4 miles on the treadmill with 1% incline since yesterday. I was totally sweating buckets afterwards. It was nice to hit the showers after stretching my poor quads.
The best compliment I got from my trainer friend was: “I’ve seen you run on the treadmill before. You can so do this. Just need to get the fundamental down like breathing properly and not running with your hands in a fist. It’s all a mental game. Don’t let the left side of your brain get the better of you.” Maybe that’s why I pushed myself a little harder today to see what I can do. Perhaps by the end of the week, I’ll see how long it would take me to run a mile and just work on getting that time quicker :)
